Meet Dr. Johan Haarhof
Dr. Johan’s journey to becoming a medical doctor is a testament to his unwavering determination and resilience. Raised in Warrenton, a small town in the Northern Cape, he completed his Secondary Education at Diamantveld Hoërskool before commencing his medical studies at Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha, Eastern Cape.
His path was marked by significant adversity. A near-fatal bus accident resulted in the confinement of a wheelchair and a cardiac arrhythmia. Furthermore, he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and endured the loss of six loved ones within a short period. Nevertheless, these challenges only strengthened his perseverance in achieving his dream. In 2022, he graduated from the Water Sisulu University with an MBChB degree.
Dr. Johan postgraduate training included a two-year internship at Klerksdorp Tshepong Hospital and a year of community service at Philadelphia hospital in Limpopo. These experiences settled his passion for all aspects of medicine, leading him to pursue a career as a General Practitioner.
Dr. Johan is distinguished by his caring, compassionate, and professional demeanour. He is deeply committed to his patients’ well-being and extends his concern to their families. His approach to patient care is holistic, involving the patients’ complaints and the broader context of their lives and challenges. He actively supports the patients’ families in navigating the complexities of caring for ill loved ones.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Johan demonstrates a strong commitment to community service. He is actively involved with the Handicapped Scuba Crew, a Non-Governmental Organisation that provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities to experience the joy of scuba diving.
